سورہ اعراف ، آیت 78 میں اس کو الرّجْفہ (زبردست زلزلہ)کہا گیا ہے۔ سورہ ہود ، آیت 67 میں اس کے لیے الصَّیْحَہ (زور کے دھماکے)کا لفظ استعمال کیا گیا ہے۔ سورہ حٰم السجدہ، آیت ١7 میں فرمایا گیا ہے کہ ان کو صَاعِقَةُ الْعَذَاب (عذاب کے کڑکے) نے آلیا۔ اور یہاں اُسی عذاب کو الطَّاغیہ (حد سے زیادہ سخت حادثہ)سے تعبیر فرمایا گیا ہے۔ یہ ایک ہی واقعہ کی مختلف کیفیات کا بیا ن ہے۔

آیت 5{ فَاَمَّا ثَمُوْدُ فَاُہْلِکُوْا بِالطَّاغِیَۃِ۔ } ”پس ثمود تو ہلاک کردیے گئے ایک حد سے بڑھ جانے والی آفت سے۔“ الطاغیۃ کے لغوی معنی حد سے گزر جانے والی چیز کے ہیں۔ یعنی انتہائی شدت والی چیز۔ اس کے لیے قرآن حکیم کے مختلف مقامات پر الرَّجفۃ زبردست زلزلہ ‘ الصَّیحۃ زور کا دھماکہ یا کڑک ‘ صَاعِقَۃ گرج الفاظ مذکور ہیں ‘ جو عذاب کی مختلف کیفیات کو بیان کرتے ہیں۔
