یہ چال تو وہ چلے اور پھر ایک چال ہم نے چلی جس کی انہیں خبر نہ تھی۔1

یعنی قبل اس کے کہ وہ اپنے طے شدہ وقت پر حضرت صالحؑ کے ہاں شبخون مارتے ، اللہ تعالیٰ نے اپنا عذاب بھیج دیا اور نہ صرف وہ بلکہ ان کی پوری قوم تباہ ہوگئی ۔ معلوم ایسا ہوتا ہے کہ یہ سازش ان لوگوں نے اونٹنی کی کونچیں کاٹنے کے بعد کی تھی۔ سورہ ہود میں ذکر آتا ہےکہ جب انہوں نے اونٹنی کو مار ڈالا تو حضرت صالحؑ نے انہیں نوٹس دیا کہ بس اب تین دن مزے کر لو، اس کے بعد تم پر عذاب آجائے گا(فَقَالَ تَمَتَّعُوْا فِیْ دَارِکُمْ ثَلٰثَۃَ اَیَّامٍ، ذٰلِکَ وَعْدٌ غَیْرُ مَکْذُوْبٍ)۔ اس پر شاید انہوں سے سوچا ہو گا کہ صالحؑ کا عذاب ِ موعود تو آئے چاہے نہ آئے ، ہم لگے ہاتھوں اونٹنی کے ساتھ اس کا بھی کیوں نہ کام تمام کر دیں۔ چنانچہ اغلب یہ ہے کہ انہوں نے شبخون مارنے کے لیے وہی رات تجویز کی ہوگی جس رات عذاب آنا تھا اور قبل اس کے کے ان کا ہاتھ حضرت صالح ؑ پر پڑتا خدا کا زبر دست ہاتھ ان پر پڑ گیا۔
