- وَلَتَجِدَنَّهُمْاور البتہ تم ضرور پاؤ گے ان کو
- اَحْرَصَحریص ترین
- النَّاسِلوگوں میں سے
- عَلٰیاوپر
- حَیٰوةٍ ۛۚزندگی گے / زندہ رہنے کے
- وَمِنَاورمیں سے
- الَّذِیْنَان لوگوں کے
- اَشْرَكُوْا ۛۚجنہوں نے شرک کیا
- یَوَدُّدل سے چاہتا ہے
- اَحَدُهُمْہر ایک ان کا
- لَوْکاش
- یُعَمَّرُوہ عمر دے دیا جائے
- اَلْفَہزار
- سَنَةٍ ۚسال
- وَمَااورجو
- هُوَوہ
- بِمُزَحْزِحِهٖبچانے والی اس کو
- مِنَپیچھے
- الْعَذَابِعذاب

Translation and commentary
Tafheem-ul-Quran
تم انہیں سب سے بڑھ کر جینے کا حریص1 پاوٴ گے حتّٰی کہ یہ اس معاملے میں مشرکوں سے بھی بڑھے ہوئے ہیں۔ ان میں سے ایک ایک شخص یہ چاہتا ہے کہ کسی طرح ہزار برس جیے ، حالانکہ لمبی عمر بہر حال اُسے عذاب سے تودُور نہیں پھینک سکتی۔ جیسے کچھ اعمال یہ کر رہے ہیں، اللہ تو انہیں دیکھ ہی رہا ہے

اصل میں عَلیٰ حَیٰو ۃٍ کا لفظ ارشاد ہوا ہے، جس کے معنی ہیں کسی نہ کسی طرح کی زندگی ۔ یعنی انہیں محض زندگی کی حرص ہے، خواہ وہ کسی طرح کی زندگی ہو، عزّت اور شرافت کی ہو یا ذلّت اور کمینہ پن کی۔
