ہم نے اُن لوگوں کو بھی دیکھا جنہیں کتاب کے علم کا کچھ حصّہ دیا گیا ہے؟1 وہ خود ضلالت کے خریدار بنے ہوئے ہیں اور چاہتے ہیں کہ تم بھی راہ گم کردو

عملاء اہلِ کتاب کے متعلق قرآن نے اکثر یہ الفاظ استعمال کیے ہیں کہ ” انہیں کتاب کے علم کا کچھ حصّہ دیا گیا ہے۔“ اس کی وجہ یہ ہے کہ اوّل تو انہوں نے کتابِ الہٰی کا ایک حصّہ گم کر دیا تھا۔ پھر جو کچھ کتاب ِ الہٰی میں سے اُن کے پاس موجود تھا اس کی رُوح اور اس کے مقصد و مدّعا سے بھی وہ بیگانہ ہو چکے تھے۔ ان کی تمام دلچسپیاں لفظی بحثوں اور احکام کے جُزئیات او ر عقائد کی فلسفیانہ پیچیدگیوں تک محدُود تھیں ۔ یہی وجہ تھی کہ وہ دین کی حقیقت سے نا آشنا اور دینداری کے جوہر سے خالی تھے ، اگرچہ علماءِ دین اور پیشوا یانِ مِلّت کہے جاتے تھے۔
