اے پروردگار، مجھے ایک بیٹا عطا کر جو صالحوں میں سے ہو‘‘1

اس دعا سے خود بخود یہ بات معلوم ہوتی ہے کہ حضرت ابراہیمؑ اس وقت بے اولاد تھے ۔ قرآن مجید میں دوسرے مقامات پر جو حالات بیان کیے گئے ہیں ان سے معلوم ہوتا ہے کہ آپ صرف ایک بیوی اور ایک بھتیجے (حضرت لوطؑ) کو لے کر ملک سے نکلے تھے ۔ اس وقت فطرۃً آپ کے دل میں یہ خواہش پیدا ہوئی کہ اللہ کوئی صالح اولاد عطا فرمائے جو اس غریب الوطنی کی حالت میں آپ کا غم غلط کرے ۔
