مَاۤنہیں
اٰمَنَتْایمان لائی
قَبْلَهُمْان سے پہلے
مِّنْکوئی
قَرْیَةٍبستی
اَهْلَكْنٰهَا ۚہلاک کردیا ہم نے اس کو
اَفَهُمْکیا بھلا وہ
یُؤْمِنُوْنَایمان لائیں گے ؟

حالانکہ ان سے پہلے کوئی بستی بھی جسے ہم نے ہلاک کیا، ایمان نہ لائی۔ اب کیا یہ ایمان لائیں گے؟¹

اس مختصر سے جملے میں نشانی کی مطالبے کا جو جواب دیا گیا ہے وہ تین مضمونوں پر مشتمل ہے۔ ایک یہ کہ تم پچھلے رسُولوں کی سی نشانیاں مانگتے ہو ، مگر یہ بھُول جاتے ہو کہ ہٹ دھرم لوگ اُن نشانیوں کو دیکھ کر بھی ایمان نہ لائے تھے۔ دوسرے یہ کہ تم نشانی کا مطالبہ تو کرتے ہو، مگر یہ یاد نہیں رکھتے کہ جس قوم نے بھی صریح معجزہ آنکھوں سے دیکھ لینے کے بعد ایمان لانے سے انکار کیا ہے وہ پھر ہلاک ہوئے بغیر نہیں رہی ہے۔ تیسرے یہ کہ تمہاری منہ مانگی نشانی نہ بھیجنا تو تم پر خدا کی ایک بڑی مہربانی ہے ۔ اب تک تم انکار پر انکار کیے جاتے رہے اور مبتلائے عذاب نہ ہوئے۔ کیا اب نشانی اس لیے مانگتے ہو کہ ان قوموں کا سا انجام دیکھو جو نشانیاں دیکھ کر بھی ایمان نہ لائیں اور تباہ کر دی گئیں؟
