Commentary (one passage for ayahs 16:120, 16:121, 16:122, 16:123)
آیت 120 اِنَّ اِبْرٰهِيْمَ كَانَ اُمَّةً قَانِتًا لِّلّٰهِ حَنِيْفًا ۭ وَلَمْ يَكُ مِنَ الْمُشْرِكِيْنَ اَمَّ یَوُمُّ کے لغوی معنی قصد کرنے کے ہیں۔ سورة یوسف آیت 45 میں اُمَّۃ کا لفظ وقت اور مدت کے لیے بھی استعمال ہوا ہے وَادَّکَرَ بَعْدَ اُمَّۃٍ ۔ وقت اور زمانے کے بھی ہم پیچھے چلتے ہیں تو گویا اس کا قصد کرتے ہیں۔ اسی طرح راستے پر چلتے ہوئے بھی انسان اس کا قصد کرتا ہے۔ اس حوالے سے لفظ اُمَّۃ وقت اور راستے کے لیے بھی استعمال ہوتا ہے۔ اسی طرح جب بہت سے لوگ ایک نظریے کا قصد کر کے اکٹھے ہوجائیں تو انہیں بھی اُمَّۃ کہا جاتا ہے ‘ یعنی ہم مقصد لوگوں کی جماعت۔ چناچہ اسی معنی میں سورة البقرۃ کی آیت 143 میں فرمایا گیا : وَکَذٰلِکَ جَعَلْنٰکُمْ اُمَّۃً وَّسَطًا لِّتَکُوْنُوْا شُہَدَآءَ عَلَی النَّاسِ ۔ اس لحاظ سے آیت زیرنظر میں لفظ امت کا مفہوم یہ ہوگا کہ حضرت ابراہیم ایک راستہ بنانے والے ‘ اور ایک ریت ڈالنے والے تھے ‘ اور اس طرح آپ اپنی ذات میں گویا ایک امت تھے۔ جب دنیا میں کوئی مسلمان نہ تھا اور پوری دنیا کفر کے راستے پر گامزن تھی تو آپ تن تنہا اسلام کے علمبردار تھے۔
