مگر تم خواہ کتنا ہی چاہو ان میں سے اکثر لوگ مان کر دینے والے نہیں ہیں۔1

یعنی ان لوگوں کی ہٹ دھرمی کا عجیب حال ہے۔ تمہاری نبوت کی آزمائش کے لیے بہت سوچ سمجھ کر اور مشورے کرکے جو مطالبہ انہوں نے کیا تھا اسے تم نے بھری محفل میں برجستہ پورا کردیا، اب شاید تم متوقع ہوگے کہ اس کے بعد تو انہیں یہ تسلیم کرلینے میں کوئی تامل نہ رہے گا کہ تم یہ قرآن خود تصنیف نہیں کرتے ہو بلکہ واقعی تم پر وحی آتی ہے۔ مگر یقین جانو کہ یہ اب بھی نہ مانیں گے اور اپنے انکار پر جمے رہنے کے لیے کوئی دوسرا بہانہ ڈھونڈ نکالیں گے۔ کیونکہ ان کے نہ ماننے کی اصل وجہ یہ نہیں ہے کہ تمہاری صداقت کا اطمینان حاصل کرنے کے لیے یہ کھلے دل سے کوئی معقول دلیل چاہتے تھے اور وہ ابھی تک انہیں نہیں ملی۔ بلکہ اس کی وجہ صرف یہ ہے کہ تمہاری بات یہ ماننا چاہتے نہیں ہیں، اس لیے ان کو تلاش دراصل ماننے کے لیے کسی دلیل کی نہیں بلکہ نہ ماننے کے لیے کسی بہانے کی ہے – مخاطب گروہ کو جس کے مجمع میں یہ تقریر کی جارہی تھی، ایک نہایت لطیف و بلیغ طریقہ سے اس کی ہٹ دھرمی پر متنبہ کرنا ہے۔ انہوں نے اپنی محفل میں آپ کو امتحان کے لیے بلایا تھا اور اچانک یہ مطالبہ کیا تھا کہ اگر تم نبی ہو تو بتاوٴ بنی اسرائیل کے مصر جانے کا قصہ کیا ہے۔ اس کے جواب میں ان کو وہیں اور اسی وقت پورا قصہ سنادیا گیا، اور آخر میں یہ مختصر سا فقرہ کہہ کر آئینہ بھی ان کے سامنے رکھ دیا گیا کہ ہٹ دھرمو! اس میں اپنی صورت دیکھ لو، تم کس منہ سے امتحان لینے بیٹھے تھے؟ معقول انسان اگر امتحان لیتے ہیں تو اس لیے لیتے ہیں کہ اگر حق ثابت ہوجائے تو اسے مان لیں، مگر تم وہ لوگ ہو جو اپنا منہ مانگا ثبوت مل جانے پر بھی مان کر نہیں دیتے۔
