فضیل بن مرزوق نے شقیق بن عقبہ سے اور انھوں نے حضرت براء بن عازب رضی اللہ عنہ سے روایت کی کہ یہ آیت ( اس طرح ) حافظ علی الصلوٰت وصلاۃ العصر ) ) نازل ہوئی ، جب تک اللہ تعالیٰ کو منظور ہوا ہم نے اسے پڑھا ، پھر اللہ تعالیٰ نے اسےمنسوخ کر دیا اور آیت اس طرح اتری : ( حفظوا علی الصلوٰت والصلوٰۃ الوسطیٰ ) ’’نمازوں کی نگہداشت کرو اور ( خصوصا ) درمیان کی نماز کی ‘ ‘ اس پر ایک آدمی نے ‘ جو شقیق کے پاس بیٹھا ہوا تھا ، ان سے کہا : تو پھر اس سے مراد عصر کی نماز ہوئی ؟ حضرت براء رضی اللہ عنہ نے فرمایا : میں تمھیں بتا چکا ہوں کہ یہ آیت کیسے اتری اور اللہ تعالیٰ نے کیسے اسے منسوخ کیا ، ( اصل حقیقت ) اللہ ہی بہتر جانتا ہے
