أُعِيذُكُمَا بِكَلِمَاتِ اللَّهِ التَّامَّةِ، مِنْ كُلِّ شَيْطَانٍ وَهَامَّةٍ، وَمِنْ كُلِّ عَيْنٍ لَامَّةٍ
I seek refuge for you both in the perfect words of Allah, from every devil and every harmful creature, and from every evil eye.
Seeking Allah's protection for children.

Said once.

لَا بَأْسَ، طَهُورٌ إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ
No harm; it is a purification, if Allah wills.
Visiting the sick.

أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ الْعَظِيمَ رَبَّ الْعَرْشِ الْعَظِيمِ أَنْ يَشْفِيَكَ
I ask Allah the Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you.
Visiting the sick whose time has not come.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ النَّاسِ، أَذْهِبِ الْبَأْسَ، اشْفِهِ وَأَنْتَ الشَّافِي، لَا شِفَاءَ إِلَّا شِفَاؤُكَ، شِفَاءً لَا يُغَادِرُ سَقَمًا
O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the harm. Heal, for You are the Healer; there is no healing except Your healing, a healing that leaves no illness behind.
For someone who is ill.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِي وَارْحَمْنِي وَأَلْحِقْنِي بِالرَّفِيقِ الْأَعْلَىٰ
O Allah, forgive me, have mercy on me and join me with the highest companions.
By the one who feels death near.

Said once.

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ، إِنَّ لِلْمَوْتِ لَسَكَرَاتٍ
There is no god but Allah. Truly, death has its agonies.

Said once.

لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَاللَّهُ أَكْبَرُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ لَهُ الْمُلْكُ وَلَهُ الْحَمْدُ، لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَلَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ
There is no god but Allah and Allah is the Greatest. There is no god but Allah alone. There is no god but Allah alone, with no partner. There is no god but Allah; His is the dominion and His is the praise. There is no god but Allah and there is no might and no power except with Allah.

Said once.

إِنَّا لِلَّهِ وَإِنَّا إِلَيْهِ رَاجِعُونَ، اللَّهُمَّ أْجُرْنِي فِي مُصِيبَتِي، وَأَخْلِفْ لِي خَيْرًا مِنْهَا
Truly we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. O Allah, reward me in my affliction and replace it with something better.
When struck by a calamity. The first part is Qur'an 2:156.
Sahih Muslim · Narrated by Umm Salamah
Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِفُلَانٍ وَارْفَعْ دَرَجَتَهُ فِي الْمَهْدِيِّينَ، وَاخْلُفْهُ فِي عَقِبِهِ فِي الْغَابِرِينَ، وَاغْفِرْ لَنَا وَلَهُ يَا رَبَّ الْعَالَمِينَ، وَافْسَحْ لَهُ فِي قَبْرِهِ وَنَوِّرْ لَهُ فِيهِ
O Allah, forgive so-and-so, raise his rank among the guided, be his successor among those he leaves behind, and forgive us and him, O Lord of the worlds. Make his grave spacious for him and give him light in it.
Closing the eyes of the deceased. Name the person where it says “so-and-so”.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِهِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالْمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالْبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّهِ مِنَ الْخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الْأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَارًا خَيْرًا مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلًا خَيْرًا مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَزَوْجًا خَيْرًا مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الْجَنَّةَ، وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ وَمِنْ عَذَابِ النَّارِ
O Allah, forgive him and have mercy on him, give him well-being and pardon him. Honour his place of rest and make his entrance wide. Wash him with water, snow and hail, and cleanse him of sins as a white garment is cleansed of dirt. Give him a better home than his home, a better family than his family and a better spouse than his spouse. Admit him to Paradise and protect him from the punishment of the grave and the Fire.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَشَاهِدِنَا وَغَائِبِنَا، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا، اللَّهُمَّ مَنْ أَحْيَيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَأَحْيِهِ عَلَى الْإِسْلَامِ، وَمَنْ تَوَفَّيْتَهُ مِنَّا فَتَوَفَّهُ عَلَى الْإِيمَانِ، اللَّهُمَّ لَا تَحْرِمْنَا أَجْرَهُ، وَلَا تُضِلَّنَا بَعْدَهُ
O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, those present and those absent, our young and our old, our males and our females. O Allah, whoever You keep alive among us, keep him alive upon Islam, and whoever You take, take him upon faith. O Allah, do not deprive us of his reward and do not lead us astray after him.

Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ إِنَّ فُلَانَ بْنَ فُلَانٍ فِي ذِمَّتِكَ وَحَبْلِ جِوَارِكَ، فَقِهِ مِنْ فِتْنَةِ الْقَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ النَّارِ، وَأَنْتَ أَهْلُ الْوَفَاءِ وَالْحَقِّ، فَاغْفِرْ لَهُ وَارْحَمْهُ، إِنَّكَ أَنْتَ الْغَفُورُ الرَّحِيمُ
O Allah, so-and-so, son of so-and-so, is in Your care and in the rope of Your protection. Protect him from the trial of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. You are the One of fulfilment and truth, so forgive him and have mercy on him; You are the Forgiving, the Merciful.
In the funeral prayer. Name the person where it says “so-and-so”.

Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ عَبْدُكَ وَابْنُ عَبْدِكَ وَابْنُ أَمَتِكَ احْتَاجَ إِلَىٰ رَحْمَتِكَ، وَأَنْتَ غَنِيٌّ عَنْ عَذَابِهِ، إِنْ كَانَ مُحْسِنًا فَزِدْ فِي حَسَنَاتِهِ، وَإِنْ كَانَ مُسِيئًا فَتَجَاوَزْ عَنْهُ
O Allah, he is Your servant, the son of Your servant and Your maidservant; he is in need of Your mercy and You have no need of punishing him. If he did good, increase his good deeds; and if he did wrong, overlook it.

Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ أَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ الْقَبْرِ
O Allah, protect him from the punishment of the grave.
In the funeral prayer for a child.
Muwaṭṭaʾ Mālik · Reported from Abu Hurayrah
Said once.
-
إِنَّ لِلَّهِ مَا أَخَذَ وَلَهُ مَا أَعْطَىٰ، وَكُلُّ شَيْءٍ عِنْدَهُ بِأَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى، فَلْتَصْبِرْ وَلْتَحْتَسِبْ
Truly, to Allah belongs what He took and what He gave, and everything with Him has an appointed term. So be patient and seek His reward.
Consoling the bereaved.

Said once.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ وَعَلَىٰ سُنَّةِ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ
In the name of Allah and upon the way of the Messenger of Allah.
Placing the deceased in the grave.
Sunan Abi Dawud; Jamiʿ al-Tirmidhi; Musnad Ahmad · Narrated by Ibn ʿUmar
Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لَهُ، اللَّهُمَّ ثَبِّتْهُ
O Allah, forgive him. O Allah, make him steadfast.
After burial: stand by the grave and ask forgiveness and steadfastness for the deceased.
Sunan Abi Dawud · Narrated by ʿUthmān ibn ʿAffān
Said once.

السَّلَامُ عَلَيْكُمْ أَهْلَ الدِّيَارِ مِنَ الْمُؤْمِنِينَ وَالْمُسْلِمِينَ، وَإِنَّا إِنْ شَاءَ اللَّهُ بِكُمْ لَلَاحِقُونَ، أَسْأَلُ اللَّهَ لَنَا وَلَكُمُ الْعَافِيَةَ
Peace be upon you, people of these dwellings, among the believers and the Muslims. We shall, if Allah wills, join you. I ask Allah for well-being for us and for you.
Visiting graves.
