The adhan and the mosque

وَأَنَا أَشْهَدُ أَنْ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا اللَّهُ وَحْدَهُ لَا شَرِيكَ لَهُ، وَأَنَّ مُحَمَّدًا عَبْدُهُ وَرَسُولُهُ، رَضِيتُ بِاللَّهِ رَبًّا، وَبِمُحَمَّدٍ رَسُولًا، وَبِالْإِسْلَامِ دِينًا

And I bear witness that there is no god but Allah alone, with no partner, and that Muhammad is His servant and Messenger. I am pleased with Allah as Lord, with Muhammad as Messenger and with Islam as religion.

After the muezzin's testimonies in the adhan.

Sahih Muslim · Narrated by Saʿd ibn Abī Waqqāṣ

Said once.

لَا حَوْلَ وَلَا قُوَّةَ إِلَّا بِاللَّهِ

There is no might and no power except with Allah.

When the muezzin says “Ḥayya ʿala al-ṣalāh” and “Ḥayya ʿala al-falāḥ”. For the other phrases, repeat what the muezzin says.

Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim · Narrated by Muʿāwiyah and Abu Hurayrah

Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ رَبَّ هَٰذِهِ الدَّعْوَةِ التَّامَّةِ وَالصَّلَاةِ الْقَائِمَةِ، آتِ مُحَمَّدًا الْوَسِيلَةَ وَالْفَضِيلَةَ، وَابْعَثْهُ مَقَامًا مَحْمُودًا الَّذِي وَعَدْتَهُ

O Allah, Lord of this perfect call and of the prayer to be established, grant Muhammad the means of approach and the excellence, and raise him to the praised station that You have promised him.

After the adhan.

Sahih al-Bukhari · Narrated by Jābir ibn ʿAbdillah

Said once.

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْ فِي قَلْبِي نُورًا، وَفِي لِسَانِي نُورًا، وَفِي سَمْعِي نُورًا، وَفِي بَصَرِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ فَوْقِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ تَحْتِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ يَمِينِي نُورًا، وَعَنْ شِمَالِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ أَمَامِي نُورًا، وَمِنْ خَلْفِي نُورًا، وَاجْعَلْ فِي نَفْسِي نُورًا، وَأَعْظِمْ لِي نُورًا

O Allah, place light in my heart, light in my tongue, light in my hearing, light in my sight, light above me, light below me, light on my right, light on my left, light in front of me and light behind me. Place light in my soul and make my light great.

Going to the mosque for prayer.

Sahih al-Bukhari and Sahih Muslim · Narrated by Ibn ʿAbbās

Said once.

أَعُوذُ بِاللَّهِ الْعَظِيمِ، وَبِوَجْهِهِ الْكَرِيمِ، وَسُلْطَانِهِ الْقَدِيمِ، مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

I seek refuge in Allah the Almighty, in His noble face and His eternal authority, from Satan the outcast.

Entering the mosque.

Sunan Abi Dawud · Narrated by ʿAbdullah ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ

Said once.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ افْتَحْ لِي أَبْوَابَ رَحْمَتِكَ

In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, open for me the doors of Your mercy.

Entering the mosque.

Sunan Abi Dawud; Sahih Muslim; Sunan Ibn Mājah · Narrated by Abu Ḥumayd or Abu Usayd, and Fāṭimah

Said once.

بِسْمِ اللَّهِ، وَالصَّلَاةُ وَالسَّلَامُ عَلَىٰ رَسُولِ اللَّهِ، اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَسْأَلُكَ مِنْ فَضْلِكَ، اللَّهُمَّ اعْصِمْنِي مِنَ الشَّيْطَانِ الرَّجِيمِ

In the name of Allah, and prayers and peace be upon the Messenger of Allah. O Allah, I ask You for Your bounty. O Allah, protect me from Satan the outcast.

Leaving the mosque.
